Sign up for Start Out Ahead, a 6-week, live, online class for 14 to 18 year olds.
We’ll go from a big-picture look at the value of money to the specifics of budgeting, saving/investing, banking, making money, credit, and even taxes.
Boring? No way!
Participants will learn how their financial decisions can have a major impact on their lives. They’ll start now to envision their futures based on personal values and goals, and will learn specific steps that can lead to achieving their dreams.
On the registration form, you can choose your section:
Section 1: Mondays and Wednesdays, 12:00-1:00 pm, Sept. 14- Oct. 21, 2020
Section 2: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7:00-8:00 pm, Sept. 15-Oct. 22, 2020
Start Out Ahead Financial Literacy Class
Week 1
What is personal finance? What does it mean to be wealthy? The value of money; needs vs. wants; the basics of banking
Week 2
How much do you cost? Budgeting/tracking expenses; living below your means; frugal vs. cheap; cutting expenses.
Week 3
Saving and investing; ways to save; the magic of compound interest; time value of money; different ways to invest; playing the market vs. investing
Week 4
Making money; different kinds of income; multiple income streams. How will you spend your life energy? Starting a business.
Week 5
Credit and debt; pro's and con's of credit cards; using credit responsibly; different kinds of debt; credit scores; the cost of debt
Week 6
What are taxes? Different kinds of taxes; reducing tax burden. Also, determining value when making a purchase.
